ROUSES POINT

Civic Center

The Rouses Point Civic Center located at 39 Lake Street is a major North Country recreational facility and site. The Civic Center was built in 1978. Upgrades to the building in 1996 made the building available for year-round use. Civic Center Manager Michael T. O'Brian oversees operations and activities at the facility and playgrounds.

The ice arena is open during the winter season, October 1st through March 30th. The arena is the home ice rink for the North Country Skating Club, North Country Youth Hockey Organization and the Northeastern Clinton Central School's Varsity High School Hockey Team. A village owned pro shop sells hockey and figure skating supplies as well as providing skate sharpening services. The North Country Youth Hockey Organization rents and operates the arena's concession stand during the winter season providing food and beverages for the arena's participants and audiences. The North Country Skating Club holds their annual skating show in March. Current ice rental is $116 per hour for what many participants call the "best quality ice" in the North Country. Public skating throughout the winter season is available to the public at $2 per person. The public skating schedule is posted on the village's website home page and at the Civic Center. Copies of the schedule are also available at the Village Office.

During the summer season the Civic Center has hosted many events since the upgrade of the facility, including dances, trade shows, 4th of July Celebration events, circuses, as well as the Clinton County Republican Dinner, attended by former Governor George A. Pataki. The Center also plays host to the Boston-Montreal-Boston (BMB) annual bicycle race. The annual Biking for Miracles Motorcycle Ride benefiting the Children Miracle Network for cancer uses the facility as its departure point.

Two meeting rooms are available to organizations. The Village Board of Trustees' semi-monthly meetings are held in Halstead Hall.  The outdoor site has two baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball court, tennis courts, a playground, the Samuel de Champlain Center Stage and a gazebo for family gatherings.
